Summary
When Gregory Quist, Special Investigator for the Texas Northern and Arizona Southern Railroad, rode into Cenotaph to answer a call for help from Mrs. Gideon Harmon, he had no idea that he could soon be up to his neck in danger. Not much time had gone by before Quist joined with a posse to hunt the train robbers, and now they were in the middle of a deserted mesa. The sheriff and his posse had tracked the robbers to a ranch house that, from all appearances, seemed to be deserted. The sheriff spat on the ground and prepared the posse to move. Quist knew without a doubt that this was going to be a showdown. Suddenly a window opened and a rifle shot rang out. Then there were more shots from other windows in the house. Through the noise and the gun smoke, Quist heard the sheriff shout, "Close in -- like you didn't care to live forever!"
